Dispersion or Where Can We Find a Bart(h)alos Today?

With relatively little effort I found the address of a Bartalos at the following localities;

In the U.S.: in

Butler, New Jersey;

Fairfax, Virginia;

Largo, Florida;

St. Petersburg, Florida;

Shawnee Mission, Kansas;

Carrollton, Texas;

Yucaipa, California;

Hollister, California;

Los Angeles, California;

San Francisco, California

Adams, Tennessee; and

Clarksville, Tennessee.

In Canada:

Wedgeport, Nova Scotia;

Mississauga, Ontario;

Cooksville, Ontario;

Toronto, Ontario;

Ancaster, Ontario;

Downsview, Ontario; and

Dundas, Ontario.

In Australia:

Sellicks Beach, South Australia;

Christie Downs, South Australia; and

Hackham West, South Australia.

In England:

Letchworth, Herts.

In Austria:

Wien (Vienna in English) 4 addresses in that city and one in

St. Andrae.

In Germany:

Augsburg and

Felsberg.

Through this webside we were contacted by Bartaloses residing in the current Serbia – Hercegovina (in the city of Subotica , in Hungarian it is called Szabadka) and learned of still others in the Czech Republic and in Kuwait.

In Hungary I studied the telephone company Matav’s online subscribers’ directory and found 168 entries under the name Bartalos and 15 under the name Barthalos.

The largest number of Bartalos probably still reside in southwest Slovakia and still others might be living in Romania.

Caveat

If you are a Bartalos, you cannot automatically assume that a bearer of your name is indeed a relative of yours. It seems that during history the Bartalos name arose more than once in different parts of Hungary. In addition, the common evolution of the name from Bartalan to Bartalos (see "The Origin of the Name Bartalos" in this web site) has been short-circuited whenever someone assumed the name Bartalos. There is example for that too. In still other instances a women with the name Bartalos might be a wife, divorcee or widow of a Bartalos. At the same time by counting heads with the Bartalos name as a marker we will miss the female members of the family who married and now are known by their husband’s last name.

Anyone with enough enthusiasm and time to spare who contemplates to undertake the task of contacting individuals with the name Bartalos for the purpose of family research need to be aware of these possibilities.
